Notice of Intent to Conduct Restoration Planning, Assumption Parish, Louisiana, East Lake Palourde Oil Spill

The Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office (LOSCO) as the trustee coordinator for the State of Louisiana, in consultation and agreement with state and federal natural resource trustees, have determined that the impacts of the discharges of undetermined amounts of crude oil from two pipelines on undetermined dates into East Lake Palourde’s cypress-tupelo swamp and surrounding flotant marsh in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, warrant conducting a Natural Resource Damage Assessment that will include restoration planning.
This Notice of Intent for this oil spill incident was published in the March 2004 Louisiana State Register and is available online at http://www.state.la.us/osr/osr.htm.

Louisiana Oil Spill Research and Development Program and Governor’s Applied Coastal Research and Development Program Host Annual Symposium

The Louisiana Oil Spill Research and Development Program and the Governor’s Applied Coastal Research and Development Program host the annual Symposium May 12-13, 2004 at the Pennington Conference Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Highlights of the Oil Spill Symposium will include presentations by the Principal Investigators for funding year 2002-2003. Highlights of the Coastal Symposium will include presentations by the Principal Investigators for funding year 2003-2004.

2004 Inland Region 6 Regional Response Team Meeting

The 2004 Inland Region 6 Regional Response Team Meeting will be held June 22-24, 2004 at the Westin Hotel in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Highlights of the three-day meeting include executive sessions, committee meetings, and a planned visit to the National Memorial. The committee meetings, general session, and trip to the National Memorial are open to all attendees. The attached document is a draft agenda for the three-day meeting.
Tampa, Florida Hosts Clean Gulf 2004 Conference and Exhibition

The State of Florida, Department of Environmental Protection, will host the 14th annual Clean Gulf Conference and Exhibition November 17-18, 2004 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida. More than 2,000 attendees are expected at this year's conference and exhibition which will continue the theme of “Keeping Our Environment Clean, Safe & Secure.” Exhibitors will showcase products, services, and technologies serving the energy industry as related to oil spill prevention, emergency response, security, clean-up, and fire and salvage. In addition, an on-the-water-demo is planned.

Miami Beach, Florida Hosts 2005 International Oil Spill Conference

The 19th Biennial International Oil Spill Conference on Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Restoration will be held May 15–19, 2005 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Representatives from more than 50 countries are expected to attend the technical sessions and view more than 250 exhibits. The conference theme for 2005 is: Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Restoration – Raising Global Standards.
The theme includes an expanded perspective with a renewed emphasis on prevention. The scope of this theme covers the complete life cycle of oil and extends across the entire environment, from the marine to the inland regions. Environmental stewardship extends to wherever oil is found, used or transported.

LOSCO Exhibits at 2004 Baton Rouge Earth Day

2004 Baton Rouge Earth Day was held on Sunday, April 18, 2004 in Downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This year’s theme "One Environment, No Borders," encouraged awareness of how local and national environmental practices affect our backyard, our state, our country, and our world through interactive and creative educational activities. Year 2004 highlights included the wetlands tent, earth for children, observing the world above us, learning through the arts, nature and your neighborhood, Louisiana and Native American culture, farming for our future, and recycle fair.
LOSCO’s exhibit under the Wetlands Tent featured visual displays, literature, and an interactive educational activity which had children clean up a mock oil spill, thus stressing the importance of oil spill prevention and response.
